In May this year, I headed to Cancun to join The Boudoir Divas for an amazing opportunity to model with picturesque Riviera Maya as a backdrop! I also wanted to make sure I didn’t spend a ton of money on my outfits, because I didn’t anticipate getting a ton of use out of them past this summer. And so, I give you: how I curated a wardrobe on a budget in Riviera Maya!
One of my favorite things about traveling with The Boudoir Divas and their amazing owner Marissa is that I get to curate some really fun outfits and they help me bring the vision to life as the shoot progresses!
For this trip, it was important to me to have bright colors, bathing suits (you’ve read my bikini manifesto by now, yes?), and clothing with movement. I wanted my wardrobe to really capture the vibrant atmosphere, and transport me (and you) there every time I see the photos!
This trip was a bit different than our trip to Greece last summer; This time 6 other photographers from all over the USA came along to learn from Marissa, and then shoot myself and 5 other models, and it was magic!
The cool thing about this experience was that not only did I get to work with Marissa (who is one of my personal She-roes), but also working with these new women (now friends) and seeing how the same place/outfit translates so differently through each of their lenses.
We stayed at the gorgeous Villa Kaak Naab in Playa Secreto, just 30 or so minutes from the Cancun International Airport, and we were able to get a lot of amazing shots right there! We had a beautiful pool, a private beach, a rooftop trellis, and many other amazing little spots to use! We even had our own little cenote!
We also ventured into Tulum for a day to the real Cenotes (cool freshwater swimming holes with the prettiest blue-green waters), and spent a day on a Catamaran in Cancun getting some amazing shots as well!
I knew we would have a lot of places and opportunities to shoot, so I wanted to have a lot of affordable options to be able to swap out my outfits as necessary! There were even some cute swimsuits and outfits I didn’t shoot in, but wore around the house and the town!
Below, you’ll find links to the items I used to curate this particular wardrobe! Some items are no longer available, so I linked similar items from the same retailers where applicable!
